Local Self Defense to Benefit United Way Seminar Teaches Skills to Stay Safe This Summer DENVILLE, NJ- As the school year ends and temperatures start to rise as summer approaches, so does your risk of becoming a target of violent crime. A May 2013 review published in the International Journal of Humanities and Social Science found a substantial body of evidence linking a spike in aggression and violence as temperatures approach the 90 degree mark. Even though violent crime in New Jersey was down by about 30 percent statewide in the first three months of 2014, according to New Jersey State Police Uniform Crime Reporting Unit, more than 3,700 crimes involved a weapon or physical violence. In an effort to offer the residents of Morris County the opportunity to learn effective self-defense skills to protect themselves this summer, Real World Mixed Martial Arts Academy is offering a seminar, Real World Street Combative. Due to demand for this training, we are offering two seminars, on May 20, 2014 at 6 pm and May 27,2014 at 6pm. This workshop teaches participants of all ages and walks of life evasive moves to take to escape safely from both armed and unarmed assailants. Additionally, attendees will also learn the psychological defenses needed to keep themselves and loved ones safe from harm. The overall goal of the seminar is to teach situational awareness techniques, prepare individuals physically and mentally to defend themselves in the event of an attack, and to increase the self-confidence of those who attend. All proceeds from this seminar will be donated to support the work of the United Way of New Jersey. RWMMA is owned by Professor George Sernack, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Tae Kwon Do black belt with over 30 years teaching experience, including self-defense training. “This class is not about belts, uniforms, rank, or ceremony,” Sernack says. “It’s about teaching people the essential skills for self-defense to protect themselves and their families. We want people of all types, ages, and professions to know how to deal with violent attackers.” RWMMA will host the seminar at 27 East Main St, Denville, NJ on May 13th at 6 pm. There is a minimum $10.00 dollar donation accepted at the door. All proceeds will go to support the work for the United Way of New Jersey.
