Local TD, Alan Kelly Minister for Public & Commuter Transport has welcomed the announcement by Minister for Justice and Equality and Defence that 305 new Garda vehicles will be delivered before the end of 2013. On budget day it was announced that €9m had been secured for the purchase of new vehicles for the Garda Fleet over the next nine months. €5m of this will be made available before the end of 2013, and €4m will be made available next year. Minister Kelly said “€9m will provide a substantial number of Garda vehicles over the next 9 months. The 305 vehicles which will be made available before the end of the year is in addition to the 133 new vehicles that were made available earlier this year. This will bring a total investment of €18m in the Garda fleet for the three years 2012 – 2014. This is a considerable investment in the Garda Fleet, this and the announcement in the Budget that Garda recruitment will recommence in Templemore next year shows the Government’s commitment to ensure that An Garda Síochána will have sufficient resources”.
