Local Training Center has closing ceremony, Winchester Star, Fri, 13 Sep 13 edition. My note: This past Thursday, 12 September 2013, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) "mothballed" the USACE Deployment Center (UDC) which is located within the Middle East District headquarters building in Winchester, VA. To our community this equates to a loss of local income of about $1.5 million annually spread out amongst the hotels, retailers, transportation providers on the 522/50 interchange. To the U.S., it marks a downturn of the number of personnel being sent to Afghanistan. Those military, civilian and contractor personnel who were deploying through the UDC are now going through Ft. Bliss.
