Local author to discuss ‘The Story of Thornby’ Sandra Walters will discuss her book, “The Story of Thornby: How Ordinary People Took on Government,” during a free program at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, in the DeLand Regional Library auditorium, 130 E. Howry Ave. The 2011 book recounts the nine-year fight by a group of citizens who called themselves the Friends of Thornby to save a pristine piece of old Florida land in Enterprise. Walters received the Historian of the Year award from the West Volusia Historical Society in 2013. Reservations are not required. For more information, call the library at 386-822-6430, ext. 20763.
