Local business news Seagate Technology plc, the worlds largest manufacturer of computer hard drives is acquiring Havant company Xyratex Ltd. for $374 million in an all-cash transaction. Xyratex, which was spun off from IBM in 1994, employ over 600 staff at their Langstone Technology Park site. Seagate were formed in 1979 and their HQ is in Cupertino, California. Havant based clothing retailer Fatface are considering a floatation on the Stock Exchange later this year. Fatface are currently owned by Bridgepoint Capital. Their sales grew by 15% in the first half of its financial year to £98.9m. The firm employs 300 staff at its Ridgeway site. SSE has announced it is on course to make more than £1.5bn in profit this year, despite losing 250,000 gas and electricity customers. SSE said the number of household accounts in Great Britain and Ireland fell from 9.47 million to 9.22 million in the last nine months of 2013. Many SSE accounts are managed at its Havant offices which employ over 3000 staff. Hampshire Chamber of Commerce has named its new chief executive. Stewart Dunn, the MD of Southampton marketing firm Carswell Gould, will take over from Jimmy Chestnutt next month, who is retiring after nine years in the position Food Fiend Experience has been shortlisted for two of The News Business Excellence Awards- as best start up and in the retailer, tourism and hospitality company category. The Hayling Cookery school and training provider was supported by the HBC business start up grant. The Hayling Ferry was out of action for almost a month due to maintenance and weather issues. A replacement vessel has now been brought in, Waterlooville IT firm, BEA Solutions are taking Google to Court over breach of privacy. BEA are based at Brambles Enterprise Centre and design websites. Baroness Sandip Verma, minister in the Department of Energy and Climate Change, visited SSE in Penner Road, Havant on 29 Jan 2014.
