Local girl Nigina upsets fourth Seed Arruabarrena , Pervak scalps seventh seeded Friedsam at Tashkent Open Tashkent , September 9 : Local girl and wild card entrant Nigina Abduraimova recorded her biggest win of her career ousting fourth seeded Lara Arruabarrena of Spain 7-5,6-4 , Ksenia Pervak of Russia former winner here upset seventh seeded Anna -Lena Friedsam of Germany 7-6(2),6-0 in the opening round of the 16th edition of the Tashkent Open WTA tennis Championships being played at the Olympic School Tennis complex here. The tall and lanky 20 year old local star Abduraimova made it to the second round of a WTA tour event after a gap of 5 years stunning the world ranked 75th Arruabareena 7-5,6-4 in 1 hour and 26 minutes while Pervak a winner here , formerly world ranked 37 but now ranked 137 outhit the 85 ranked German seed Anna -Lena Friedsam 7-6(2),6-0 in 1 hour and 34 minutes. In other matches involving former winners here second seeded Irina Camelia Begu of Romania scored a convincing 6-3,6-1 win over Kateryna Kozlova of Ukraine , while world no 2 junior and current Wimbledon junior Champion Jelena Ostapenko justified the organizers faith in awarding a wildcard recording a 6-3,7-5 win over Shahar Peer of Israel. Third seeded Karin Knapp of Italy overcame some anxious moments in the second set to register a 6-2,7-6(3) win over Turkish No 1. Cagla Buyukakcay , fifth seeded Donna Vekic of Croatia won 7-5,6-0 against Mandy Minella of Luxembourg, while sixth seeded Misaki Doi put out Katherina Siniakova of the Czech Republic 6-4,6-3. US Open wonder girl Aleksandra Krunic of Serbia who reached her career best ranking of 100 went down to qualifier Lesia Tsurenko of Ukraine 6-2,3-6,6-2 , Tsurenko managed to win in 1 hour and 39 mins in spite of double faulting 10 times in the match In the biggest upset of the day local girl Nigina Abduraimova got the crowds gathered here on their feet with a 7-5 ,6-4 upset win over fourth seeded Arrubarrena , the Spanish who played some classic tennis was broken first in the 4th game by Nigina, but the Spanish broke back the hard serving Nigina in the 9th game to level scores. Nigina hit four winners in a row in the 12th game to break Arruabarrena at love an win the first set. In the second set Nigina broke Arrubarrena in the 4th game to go up 3-1 , but the fighting Spaniard who had beaten Nigina at Hobart early in the year broke back in the fifth game after the Uzbek double faulted 3 times in the game . Both players then held on to serves till Nigina gathered her decisive break in the 12th game and also her biggest win. Im very happy to be in the second round of a tour event after 5 years , I played aggressive without thinking I was playing a seeded player. She is good player but I was better today, said Nigina after the match. Getting the wildcard at the Tashkent Open is like a magic wand , i just hope for fairy tale ending to this journey here, she added. Nigina will now take on qualifier Lyudmyla Kichenok in the second round. Pervak winner here in 2011 and battling injuries in 2012 -13 , made a strong comeback on the courts registering a 7-6(2) ,6-0 win. It feels nice to set up a win here , The first set was very important and held key to the second set.
