Local people met today at the Cenotaph in Paisley to lay a wreath - TopicsExpress

Local people met today at the Cenotaph in Paisley to lay a wreath in memory of the 71 children who died in the shocking disaster at Glen Cinema 85 years ago. That day will live forever in the memory of our community. Local families were devastated and lives turned upside down by this worst cinema disaster in British history. As a parent myself, I can’t begin to comprehend the anguish and horror of that day. Growing up in Renfrewshire, I remember my mum and dad telling me about the disaster and, looking at my own kids today, the shock is just as raw as when I first heard about it. As we pause to reflect on this great loss, I hope it has been some small comfort in the years since that new safety rules brought in in the wake of the disaster mean such a tragedy can hopefully never be repeated.
