Local residents urged to be ready for severe storms Moreton Bay Regional Council is urging local residents to be storm ready ahead of severe storms forecast this afternoon and evening. A low to moderate threat of damaging wind and hail is forecast. Council is urging local residents to be storm ready: • Monitor your local weather conditions, warnings and advice from the Bureau of Meteorology including the weather radar: bom.gov.au/products/IDR663.loop.shtml • Know the possible risks of flooding around your property – region-wide flood maps are provided free for download moretonbay.qld.gov.au/floodcheck • Be prepared with a household emergency plan to respond to any risks of flooding around your property, loss of power or storm damage. • Your emergency plan should include a kit of emergency numbers, a battery-operated radio, food, important documents and photos, bottled water and first-aid kit. • Program your battery-operated radio to stay tuned for the latest weather updates. Get ready with MoretonAlert Residents in the Moreton Bay Regional Council area can sign up to council’s free storm alert service called MoretonAlert. The service provides storm alerts via SMS or e-mail and include a link to the latest weather radar imagery. Simply visit moretonbay.qld.gov.au/moretonalert or call Moreton Bay Regional Council on 3205 0555 during normal business hours. SES requests Storms can be a busy time for the SES, before calling consider the following: • whether your property has sustained serious damage? Is it an emergency requiring SES assistance? • if you are renting your home – contact your real estate agent to report the damage and organise to have it fixed. • if you are a home owner – consider how you can arrange to have the damage fixed.
