Located in Grenada: Siskiyou Farm and Food Co-op will begin a new session on April 1 and will be having the annual farm day on March 29. For the first year fee the cost is $90 to join and be able to purchase all products off the farm and gives you an undivided interest in the cow and goat herd. After your first year you only pay $50 a year. We will have milking openings Monday morning and night and Wed nights in our herdshare. We teach you to milk, you come out on your day/night and milk and take all the milk home with you. IF you want into the herdshare you lease the cows and your fees go in to their care. Milk by machine with hot running water in the milk room (it takes about an hour). One Jersey (Dolly) one Swedish Red (Hattie Ellen) cow and a Dexter/Jersey (Lucy)heifer. We milk two to three cows at a time and aim for an average of 5-7gallons a milking. Our cows are all tested, and we test our milk monthly. Goats are milked about 6 months out of the year if you want to join that group. You must come out and do a tour and two trainings before you can begin milking. Call to schedule a training. Non-milking shares are also available. You must join the co-op, pay your membership and herd ownership fee, do a tour and the board and delivery fee for a gallon of milk a week is $104 per quarter delivered to Lake Shastina, Montague, Hornbrook, Yreka or Weed. As Available milk is for herdshare members only and is $8 per gallon. The farm share membership allows you to purchase all products off the farm however you MUST own an interest in the dairy herdshare to buy goat and cow milk products. Other products are grass fed beef, grass fed goatmeat, cheese, yogurt classes, rabbit, angora, eggs are $1/doz from our free range hens, you collect them yourself and there is no charge. Veggies, fruit, honey, all available from oru members and you can also sell non taxable items through our store. March 29th we will have an open house, with a milking demonstration, rabbit shearing demonstration, cheesemaking. All new milk parlor, above ground stanchion, milk room and cheese making classes and facilities available to co-op members.
