Logos , graphics memes and design. A common mistake a lot of people make is believing that what they themselves find easy to do and easy to assimilate, others must also find easy. And while I am shite with a pencil and paper and a key board and understanding soft ware and programs, I do have an understanding of the psychology behind graphics, memes and logos. Take logos , the best known logos are the most simple,,, Nike, McDonalds are great example of simple effective logos, once a logo gets lost in detailed graphics it becomes lost in its effectiveness and belongs to the realms of emblems rather than logos, our present logo is an example of that, it would not look to out of place on the back of a bikers jacket. Like wise with memes, simplicity , and our most shared memes are the most simple ones with the most simple , and sometimes without any graphics at all. The silhouette of the graduated student with the slogan, in a money free world learning is for free, was a greatly shared meme , simple slogan simple graphics, the capitalism is monetary fascism , our most widely shared meme didn’t have graphics at all. Like logo’s, if a meme has too much graphic detail it gets lost, the graphics act more as camouflage. Web site building is also like this, simplicity and making thing obvious. So many times I will visit a web site and I cant find my way around and so I don’t investigate it…. Yes I am stupid like that , but I am not alone there are so many of us that struggle. A good web designer understands this, and makes the web site easy for even the most stupid person , while an up and coming designer will show of their ability by adding all sorts of stuff and making links and other features very subtle, they don’t realise that other people are not as clued on web design as them and hence make web sites that dullards like me cannot explore. Small text is also a pain for most males over 40 years old, but a young designer doesn’t realise that and makes the text small coz it’s the fashion , so when the over 40s get on the site they have to struggle peering at the text and are not able to read it properly [look at the present TVP memes and their online magazine.. I just cant read them] Everything, from memes , graphics , explanations and web design, need to be a simple and as obvious as can be, to be all inclusive, once a design gets too technical, too subtle or too clever, then it loses its inclusiveness.. Simple is inclusive, sophistication is exclusion.
