London - 26.1 Visited Queens Hall, Greenwich. As part of the National maritime Museum, it contains many fine paintings of historical maritime nature. Worth a visit. This was intended to be part of a walk from Canary Wharf through the foot tunnel and viewing the docks on the way. Changed my mind and continued to N. Greenwich tube station - mistake. We ended up outside the Millennium Dome - an architectural and financial disaster resulting from misguided Tory and Labour political posturing. IMHO, of course. We eventually found our way through the new wasteland to the Greenwich Museum, which is a shadow of its former glory, but Queens Hall was interesting and the rest not as bad as it could have been. Took a bus from there to Waterloo and enjoyed a curry at the Thames Cuisine(!) under the railway bridge. (An unfortunate name, especially for those who recall what used to be seen floating in the Thames) The restaurant has been refreshed and the food was good. On the way, we passed Surrey Quays Retail Park - another disaster, especially for me as I remember what it was like as Surrey Docks: it served the Canadian and Baltic timber trades. When I was a teenager at sea-training school we used to practice rowing and sculling whalers there. Anyway, we had a lovely day out with Laura.
