Lone Survivor : NO, If you do not want to watch a sub standard movie. Yes, If you want to visually experience a story which needed retelling even though the visual impact isnt even close to what it should have been. Lone Survivor isnt a movie with a promising start and probably for no continuous 10 minutes it keeps you on your toes which is the least a war based movie should do. When the movie has a handful of characters the least you expect is depth of emotions, character development and good dialogues but all of it is absent here. The movie is nothing but a very average retelling of some unfortunate events that took place in Taliban controlled Afghanistan some years back. Lone Survivor could have been far more than a mere spectacle of sound mixing, some good fast paced camera work and a few long shots capturing the beautiful landscape. It has a premise which contains everything that can go wrong in a war mission yet never does it create any connect with the audience so that you can feel for the misfortune of the characters. The movie tries to make up for all it by showing actual photos of the dead soldiers which is the only time you feel for any of them. None of the actors are even close to their best. Mark Wahlberg is not even a shadow of his past. Eric Bana makes you feel as if he is being forced to work in the movie. Seeing Emile Hirsch, all you can think of is his legendary role in Into The Wild and what he has turned into now. On the whole, its a disappointing film. Spoiler Alert : The only reason for you to watch the movie is that you will get to know of Pashtunwali, that 2000 years old tradition of an Afghan village which made them fight with Talibanis to save an American Officer. But since you know that now, you can save yourself from this.
