Long Dog Safety Post, but listen my Family, Friends, and Subaru - TopicsExpress

Long Dog Safety Post, but listen my Family, Friends, and Subaru Community, it is worth the read. I have been traveling up and down Pacific Coast Highway in Southern California on various days, documenting people driving in cars, trucks and SUVs with dogs unsecured in their cars. Dogs riding on laps in the drivers seats, sitting in front on airbags, dogs hanging their heads out of windows, dogs in the front seat, dogs roaming back and forth in the back seat, all for a dog safety video that I am filming for Dogbook.tv initial launch. Ohh, their will be humor in my video as well, but their is nothing funny about the 1000s of dogs injured and killed each year in car accidents. Their is nothing funny about humans being killed as a result of their dogs being unsecured in their vehicle. Airbags inflate at close to 300 MPH when inflated so think about this for a second, you have a dog in your lap while driving and get into an accident, no thought required you are dead, your dog is dead, and possibly the passengers in your car are dead because the driver now has zero control of the vehicle. I have also documented people letting their dogs hang their heads out windows and sunroofs. Guess what, besides them being injured or ejected from the car in an accident, rest assured these dog owners will eventually be at the Vets office with eye and ear infections. If you have ever ridden a motorcycle, ask yourself, how often have you ever ridden down the road with no eye protection? What happens? Yes watery eyes, blurred vision and if you unlucky, a bug or road debris has hit you in the face or eyes. As a Dog Trainer, it is not my intention to be kill joy, but only to inform and share, that sometimes dog owners do the stupidest things. When passengers ride in your car do you ask them to wear their seat belts? If you have kids in you car do you make them wear seatbelts? Why? Of course safety. So why should your best furry family member be treated any differently. When I was 12 years old living in Italy, I was riding in the far back seat of a VW Bus, no seat belt, with a friend no seat belt. My friends father was driving and he had to slam on the breaks to avoid hitting a Vespa that ran a red light, both me and my friend, flew from the very back of the VW Bus and hit sleeping bags and pillows that were up against the driver and passenger seat, if those were not their, we could have been killed, it was pure luck. Riding in a car with an unsecured dog is gambling with your life, your passengers life and your dogs life. The simple rule of physics applies. The best and most safe place for a pet is in a plastic crate secured to a seat belt or secured in a dog harness to a seat belt or behind a dog gate in a wagon or SUV. In Laguna Beach where I live about 11 years ago a man was killed by his small dog in a van. He was driving on El Toro Road, dog unsecured in Van, man had to slam on his breaks, dog flew from back of van hitting the driver, who then lost control of van, crashed and both dog and man died at the scene. Too this day there are still crosses at the scene. So if you have a dog, have friends of family that has a dog, one of the best gifts you can ever give them is the knowledge about how to secure a dog in a car, why, and perhaps even the gift of a dog gate, dog car safety harness. Trust me, if a dog owner gets a car dog safety harness for a gift, they will be very stoked. youtu.be/a8lWbTXFyys
