Long Post. The Parable of the Angled Brush. I love make - TopicsExpress

Long Post. The Parable of the Angled Brush. I love make up. I love to watch it being applied and I love it even more when it is applied well. Shrug. It must be the little girl in me. Those people who are serious about make up or who are artisans in any respect will understand the importance of tools with respect to the finished look of a thing. There are basic tools that are used every day and then there are those that are not. They are only brought out when a particular effect is to be created. Neither is more important than the other. Their importance lies in their ability to fulfill the particular task to which they are applied. Such was the case on this day. Where is it?! I muttered to myself as I rummaged through my case of brushes. One hand was holding the product I wanted to apply and the other was frantically searching for a particular brush that I had just realized I needed. Having rummaged through that bag three times already and now on my fourth go, the realist in me kicked in. How necessary is this brush anyway? Find another to replace it and move on. And so I did. I picked out another brush and tried to create that same effect. But, try as I might, it just wasnt the same. It wasnt this brushs fault. It wasnt to blame. It simply wasnt created for the purpose to which it was being applied. The only brush that would do the job, was the angled brush. And it was nowhere to be found. I remember thinking to myself, as I continued with the rest of my make up, that the angled brush was probably hiding somewhere sulking because it hadnt been used in so long. It no doubt had watched me bypass it for weeks, preferring other brushes above it. Perhaps its feelings of self worth had begun to depreciate. Perhaps, tired of living in seeming obscurity, it had formulated a plan to find a way to transform itself to resemble the more frequently used brushes as a means of becoming a more prominent or popular tool. This would of course be a dreadful mistake on the part of the angled brush. You see, what the brush had forgotten was that the day I went out to purchase it, I bypassed the MANY other brushes that were on display. It did not matter how convincingly the sales assistant spoke that day, no other would do. Not because those other brushes were any less special. No. It was because I had a purpose for which I had come out shopping that day and only that particular angled brush could fulfill it. Its SOLE reason for being taken home with me and ending up in my make up case, was its uniqueness - that peculiar slant of its head. So to try to change that feature of itself would effectively render that brush useless to me. What I needed from it at that precise moment was its angled head. No other brush would do. By now it must be clear what this analogy is trying to say. But just on the off chance that it still isnt - here goes. We are each one of us different from the next. For some of us, those differences are obvious - visible to the naked eye. Others are subtle - nearly invisible. But they are there. And no one knows those differences better than the God Who put them there in the first place. You are a very specific tool in the Hand of a very specific Artist Who knows PRECISELY the effect He wants to use you to achieve. Your day will come. He will come looking for you to use you for the purpose for which He shaped you so peculiarly. Until that day comes, stay true to form. Stay within reach. Stay the course. Ps. The angled brush resurfaced a few days later. It was received with great delight by its fellow brushes and by myself. All Gods blessings.
