Long day at Sick Kids today. Clinic, followed by dental surgery, followed by two hours of IV meds. Ollie is now minus another four teeth. Hes feeling fine now, though, making up for lost eating time. Unfortunately he was sick all last night vomiting and diarrhea, so we have to make sure there are no issues that will interfere with beginning chemo. Ollie will be admitted on Monday, with chemo scheduled to begin on Tuesday. We are entering somewhat uncharted territory with this chemo protocol, and the risks of a second transplant are significantly higher, particularly given the short time since the first transplant. The goal will be to get GVHD, which in itself is dangerous. Im so happy that the kids got to enjoy their holiday before we begin again with this grind. It was more difficult for Stu and I to escape the reality. We are terrified and with good reason. But we have confidence in our doctor and we know that she believes we have a good chance or she wouldnt be putting him through this.
