Long long ago, a young man was wandering in the desert. After a long journey, he discovered a spring of sweet and fresh water. The water tasted so sweet that the student decided to bring some back to his teacher, a tribal elder. He filled his leather container with the sweet water and began his journey back. Returning to his teacher, he gave him the water to drink. The man drank the water and expressed his heart-felt gratitude to his student. The young man returned home with great joy. The teacher then gave some water to another student. The student tasted the water but spat it out saying that it was distasteful. As the water had been in the old leather container, it had become stale. The student asked his master, “The water is foul. Why did you act as if you liked it? The teacher answered, “You simply tasted the water. But I tasted the love behind it. The student had taken the pain to bring the water for me from a long distance. It displays his kindness. His act of kindness has made the water sweet for me.” We have to value the giver than the gift. Even if the gift is a small one, the love behind it has to be valued more than the gift itself. Only then we can develop an attitude of gratitude. “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (1 Thessalonians 5:18). Gutten Morgen
