Long post, I know .. but a great illustration on why living here in the P-M totally kicks ass ... This is a story of bad luck/good fortune. Got home from a little marketing and Im sitting here thinking Should I go check my PO Box? .. dont really need to, but Im expecting some receivables. So I go .. PO Box empty .. sigh .. so I pull out of the McDowell post office, and I hear a little something .. but one always does there .. theres trash all over that lot. Sure enough .. Im on Caldwell just past Hawthorne .. and I hear it loud .. rub, rub, scrape, scrape .. hit the blinkers, pull over, right-rear totally shredded. Get out, get the donut, and that dippy micro-jack (background: this situation does not apply to my best skill set .. shocking, no?) Im struggling a bit with the jack, slow .. but okay .. then one of the neighborhood street guys on a bike goes by .. stops .. and says I got this takes the jack ... the car is up in no time .. pull the old .. put on the donut .. lower the car .. no air in the donut. Fortunately theres that CITGO about 500 feet away. We put the bike in my trunk (I offered to take him to an ATM so I can thank him for his efforts) .. get to the CITGO .. he gets out .. jacks the car up again .. so we could get the tire fully on the rim .. fill it with air .. thankfully no damage to the donut .. lower the car. All is good. There was an ATM in the CITGO (bonus: without that usually Shylockian process fee) .. so i make a make a withdrawal .. give him $20 .. which thrilled him no end .. and Im off. Going down Plaza I see The Tire Depot on the corner on Plaza and Shamrock .. so I figure What the heck .. really nice, clean, guys were great .. gave me a no-BS price on the tire .. I did spring the extra $8 for the accident protection. These guys did a lot of little things that mean a lot .. in addition to replacing the tire .. they made sure the other tires were properly inflated .. *including the donut* .. and then they *washed ALL the tires*. For a bummer of a mid-morning, I couldnt be happier in seeing that helping a stranger and excellent customer service are not yet lost to civilization. So big thanks and God bless to Eddie on the blue bike .. and the crew at The Tire Depot.
