Long slow steady state cardio gets a bad wrap, probably from those - TopicsExpress

Long slow steady state cardio gets a bad wrap, probably from those that are crap at it or dont understand it. Everything is about harder, faster HIT training or for specificity for their sport. The thing is having a good aerobic base is important to heart health, CNS health and recovery. Fighters have long understood the concept of traditional roadwork and its importance to a sport than many would consider anaerobic, where only sprint work, hills, tabata or interval training or lifting weights faster should be done. Theyd be dead wrong. Like most things you need to build volume before intensity. Theres a good reason that the Thais and old school trainers still ask their fighters to go for long slow runs. It works. This is an awesome read. Traditional forms of cardio such as running, rowing, cycling, swimming and so on are still the best for cardio not lifting weights fast. Check out Kenneth Jays Cardio Code book too if you want to really get into it. Well worth a read. robertsontrainingsystems/blog/long-duration-low-intensity-cardio/
