Long story short- Public schools (Ottawa in this particular case) want to stop funding building trades programs for kids (while Superintendent gets a 5% raise, I might add). Reason- Colleges want MORE students to attend (and pay more and more every year) for enrollments. Typically when kids go into trade programs, they do some kind of apprenticeship (and EARN- NOT PAY) while working, meaning they are NOT in debt when they are finally hired. College is not for everybody. We need to have programs that allow kids to explore the possibility of something other than college. We need to have programs that prepare students for life in the real world. Anyone that cannot see exactly what the problem is here, needs to pay closer attention.
