Long time lurker from Kentucky, USA here. Im new to rope rescue (and totally unfamiliar with industrial access), and really dig the education I receive from this group, so thanks for that. Anyway, why dont edge attendants in rescue situations employ the protection of a belay? Backing up the load with a belay is such a fundamental concept when considering rescuers and patients, but we seem to feel comfortable letting the attendants chilling on the edge of the hazard rely on a single line. Whats the rationale?
