Longreach will be in party mode next Thursday December 12 with a large community gathering expected for a street Christmas party. The town hasnt had such an event for 8 years and plans are in place for a big event to help raise spirits and let children experience the magic of Christmas. In addition to 40 prize draws, Qantas has donated two return tickets to Brisbane. The Thoroughbred Breeders Queensland Association and the Droughtmaster Society have organised a weeks accommodation at Brian Hoopers Red Bridge Motel at Woombye on the Sunshine Coast for the Qantas flights winner. Thoroughbred Breeders spokesman Stan Johnston said he hoped the winner of the accommodation would be able to escape some of the the pressures of the drought.
