Longview police invite children to bike rodeo July 23 Longview Police & Fire - 07/17/13 The Longview Police Department is partnering with the Boy Scouts of America, Longview Parks and Recreation, and PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center to hold a bike rodeo to teach children bicycle safety on July 23. The bike rodeo will provide the following opportunities for children: * Bicycle safety check * Bike registrations for police to return found or recovered stolen bicycles * Safety helmet fitting for children * Skills course (traffic cone avoidance, slow ride, figure 8) "The bike rodeo will be a fun way for kids to learn the rules of the road, improve their riding skills and make sure their bikes are safe." said Community Service Officer Cindy Turpen, organizer of the event. The bike rodeo is planned for 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 23 at Olympic Elementary School. The rodeo is open to elementary and middle school age children. A parental/legal guardian assumption of risk, waiver and release will need to be completed prior to a child participating. CSO Turpen said the bike rodeo is open to any children in the community, not only those who attend Olympic elementary schools or live in those neighborhoods. For more information, call CSO Turpen at 442-5857, or by e-mail at [email protected].
