Lonsdale is deemed a transportation corridor, so ripe for increased density. Yet I get the impression fewer parking spaces are planned for, the reasons being the affordable housing tenants wont drive cars, and we shouldnt anyway. Pity to densify the steepest part of a community, expecting residents and tourists to walk the north-south slope to shop, while wrecking the incomparable Lonsdale view of the ocean. To spread out the Lower Lonsdale shops east-west with multi-use low level buildings would retain the long range view and make increased density less obvious, but do we want walls of buildings wrecking the short range view corridors for those east-west shoppers, or view corridors, high-rises, and parklets? Were likely destined to lose our views of ocean and mountains unless theyre taken into consideration as top priorities as what make this area most desirable to live in (Catch 22). What if buildings were facing the sunset to reflect it in their windows, and windows were angled toward the ocean and Lions Gate Bridge to reflect those? Put the buildings on the diagonal to have better views past them. Set them at 45 degrees to the streets, and the left over space parklets would be triangles more inviting to sit in.
