Look. I dont think they should have banned the man from the NFL. Sure, a 2 game suspension was pretty light, but the NFL is only doing it because of the media attention this has gained. The NFL knows Americans loooooove to judge others and loooooove watching other people be lambasted in the court of public opinion then punished to the most extreme degree - regardless if the facts are known or not. We know very little about the circumstances in this domestic abuse case ... all we have is a silent clip and people are ready to crush Ray Rice. It’s one thing to use this incident as an opportunity to talk about domestic violence and relationships ... its a whole different ballgame to wish the worse on the real people who were in that event, especially when the only info you have is some TMZ videos. It was uncalled for Ray Rice to KO that girl. But ruining this man’s career isn’t going to solve the larger domestic abuse issue. It will just ensure his wife and kids spend the next several years internalizing something that possibly could have been rehabilitated and solved. Now their kids will have to spend the some fraction of their life dealing with the “sins of their father.” I would argue that people care more about just seeing this guy punished than actually understanding and solving the larger problem. Punishment and retaliation is not justice, It’s revenge. It would have been more constructive for them to suspend Ray Rice from games until he demonstrated a solid effort to ensure that it would never happen again … maybe even invest in domestic abuse non-profit programs. But no … people gotta see the man fall, because there is nothing like watching a (black) man who has everything LOSE everything. Smh. Relationships can be messy things sometimes - not to say violence is an acceptable part of that - but we dont know their relationship. We shouldnt be taking this incident as some type of opportunity to have a cathartic release of pent up negative emotions against abusers. Destroying Ray Rice’s family and way of life isn’t helping the cause. ijs.
