Look, I understand patriotism. It is an incredibly strong emotional tie. If you behead one of ours, were going to make you suffer for it. Yes, theres lots of irony in this situation, especially regarding our own torture that may only make those guys feel the same way. But forget that and lets not get into who is right or wrong. Lets just see which way is best for our own interests. Okay? The first thing you hear on the news is that a majority of Americans are in favor of bombing ISIS. I count that out completely, given that a majority of Americans regret the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. In other words, admit that it was a bad move as far as American interests go. So what moved Americans back then - the same emotional response as moves them today - fear and a desire for revenge. The whole point of the representative congress was supposed to be to cool these types of reactions and to act reasonably. Uhm... not. But lets just spend one minute and reason this out. The big flaw in U.S. policy last time around was no end game. Of course almost all the assumptions were also wrong. But just think, what is supposed to happen after you bomb them? And Im saying, your bombing is 100% accurate. You get a high percentage of the bad guys. So after the bombing they emerge again and now they are even nastier - if thats possible - and instead of beheading they bury some captives in the sand and stone them. Whatever. What then? Are there Shiites who will put so-called boots on the ground? If so, guess who they will be: your arch-enemy - Iranians. So Im just saying... Im no expert. How could I be. I was able to recognize when people were being manipulated last time around. I did write that the WTC was being used to go into Iraq. And I did write in my blog at the time that the invasion of Iraq was pre-ordained. What I got wrong: I didnt believe it was about oil. I didnt believe that our government could be that venal. I was wrong about that. What I wonder now? What arent we being told.
