Look What Has Happened To Our Once Great City... Mount Vernon home owners are complaining about double digit taxes. OK! Lets do the math. If almost 60 percent of city residents are renters and most renters rent with government subsidies and then lets not forget the fact that we have 500 hundred churches in a city that is four square miles. PRAISE THE LORD!!! Wait!! Lets not forget. Almost 30 PERCENT of the welfare cases out of 43 municipalities are Mount Vernon residents that means your tax base is around thirty percent.
