Look around you. Virtually every comfort, convenience, and communications technology you enjoy was created by an Engineer (or a group of Engineers). These people put men on the moon, men beneath the sea . . . they allow us to instantaneously communicate with anyone in the world through high definition audio and/or video. Needless to say, a pretty smart group of people, huh? Anyone with a degree in engineering will tell you that the strongest skill sets that engineers bring to the plate are less about technology and more about solving problem statements that are tightly defined with a set of an initial conditions and a series of constraints (variables). This skill set has successfully solved throughout world history many complex problems that were, at a time, assessed to be unsolvable. Given that our nation (our world) is suffering from a list of seemingly unsolvable problems, would it be worth to throw those at engineers at these problems and see what they can do? Makes sense to me, but sometimes the world just doesnt make sense. Listen to recorded audio of todays show to hear a taste of why engineers and public policy dont mix well . . . if you find yourself laughing, you may be an engineer (and if you are not, maybe you should have been). . . .if you find yourself confused, remember not to run with scissors and find an engineer to explain the show to you. Laugh.
