Look at all of the legislative efforts that are able to move forward to make strides that no one would have believed possible just a couple of years ago. We always talk about Gay rights and Immigration, but dont forget Womens equality, marijuana legalization, fracking, guns and on and on. And this is what the process is supposedly for. To be able to petition the government to enact laws that The People deem worthy. But notice the obvious: the demographic of the country in the worst condition can not seem to get legislation that directly affects OUR condition. The voting rights act was past in 1965 and yet it is still an agenda item in 2015. Because of the exception in the 13th amendment, we have the criminal justice issues that we battle today. Race is very much still a front page issue in America and after all the fighting to keep black folks out of the decision making process, now we have to be convinced to participate.
