He is the Secretary of Department of Biotechnology (DBT) as well as Department of Science and Technology (DST). Recipient of Padma Shri by the Govt. of India and Infosys Prize. In 2012 he was elected as the Fellow of The Royal Society of London and in 2014 he was elected as a Foreign Associate of the US National Academy of Sciences.
