Look at these sweet, but scared little faces! These little ones seemed to have shoved each other out of their nest yesterday evening! This is the second year Cedar Waxwings have decided to nest in one of our maples trees and it seems they have invited another couple to homestead on the other side of this one maple tree. Dave and I were elated because our Cedar Waxwings have a successful nest, but afraid for them at the same time! So, Dave got out the very tall ladder as I went to grab gloves. I carefully scooped them up one at a time and handed them to Dave to very carefully place them back into their nest. The one not pictured in the photo had fallen onto a branch with leaves and perched itself near Dave. He carefully scooped him from the branch and placed him in the nest with his other siblings. Of course as we were doing this, their parents were not so patiently waiting and watching. When the coast was clear, they swooped in to feed and make sure their babies were okay! Well be on watch for these little ones to fledge! I guess yesterday was a practice run! July 10, 2014 Tiffin, OH
