Look, cis isnt supposed to be alienating. Thats not its purpose. When somebody wants to make a distinction between cis and trans people, its kind of weird and messed up to say trans people and normal people. Yeah, were a minority, but framing us as expressly not normal is an implicitly Othering action. Cis is useful. Its derived from a chemistry term to be the opposite of trans. It just means not trans. I know that some people (including some trans people) dont like it when people use cis because theyve seen it used in frustration. It IS sometimes used that way. But so are words like male or white. It doesnt mean that these words are designed to be harmful. Cis is a useful distinguishing marker for a lot of people. Please dont ask us to stop using it; we will not. (this status message inspired by seeing someone say that if you call them cis, they will literally misgender you on purpose. Eeugh)
