Look here, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.” How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. What you ought to say is, “If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that.” Otherwise you are boasting about your own plans, and all such boasting is evil. Remember, it is a sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it. James 4:13-17 Planning can get us into trouble sometimes. How many times in our lives have we planned for something great to occur and it ends up not going that way? Im a planner, a guy that likes his ducks in a row, a person that relies on the step by step guide to accomplish activities. So I plan, I look toward the future and actively plan things. Have you done this before only to be disappointed? The disappointment shows all of us something. Please pay attention to this: The fact that things dont go our way shows us that we were never in control in the first place. We might think we have things under control but consider this.. Did you make the sun rise today? Is the Earth rotating on its axis because you willed it to? Is the very breath you are breathing right now determined by you? I could keep going. There are so many events in our lives that sadly go unnoticed because we are too busy with our planning. Spend a few moments considering how much He controls with his loving hands and if you arent in awe of Gods power I dont know what else to say to convince you. Lets say that Jesus shows up on your doorstep today and wants to talk to you about an important event coming up in your life. Its 10 minutes before you are supposed to leave for that thing you needed to be at because YOU planned it. Jesus wont force you to stop what you are doing, because He loves you. But you are missing a huge opportunity. You see, Jesus wants to talk to you everyday. He wants to spend time with you always. In fact He came to Earth and died for you so that you wouldnt ever have to be separated from Him. The loving, all powerful God wants YOU. He created all things with His power and love yet He gives you a choice. Please consider surrendering your life to Him, or you can just continue to spin your wheels going no where fast with plans that may or may not turn out. You might be asking what happens after you turn your planning over to Jesus. Im so happy you asked. Plans that seemed important wont be anymore. An enormous weight will come off your shoulders. It wasnt yours to bear anyway. And you will become who were always meant to be, the person you were created to be. You see, the deception of making ourselves into something we want to be corrodes the plan God has for us. Take a moment to talk to Him this morning. Thank Him for things not going your way. Its proof that we need Him, always, desperately. Surrender today the future to Him. Tell Him that you trust whatever He asks you to do. With all your heart, trust Him, because you were made for so much more than what you are planning. Never forget, He loves you.
