Look ladies and gentlemen, I understand, youve earned your degree, - TopicsExpress

Look ladies and gentlemen, I understand, youve earned your degree, youve gained employment, and youre self-sufficient; kudos to you. Its a wonderful thing to see a person do well. However, Im going to need some of us to embrace a more realistic view on our accomplishments. Were we valedictorian or salutatorian of our graduating classes? Yes? Because if the answer is no, that means that someone graduated who was deemed more accomplished in school than ourselves. Now, what someone is considered scholastically and what they prove themselves to be in the real world, is a topic for a later discussion. My point in the current one is this: We need to stop demeaning our brothers and sisters who arent as accomplished as we believe ourselves to be. The degrees hanging on our walls did not bestow upon us cartes blanches to belittle those whom we have relegated to positions of inferiority. In fact, we should organize and manipulate that training as a means of empowerment for our communities in much the same way W.E.B. DuBois once proposed. If we as a people have to downgrade each other to make ourselves feel accomplished, we as a people, need a serious reality check. Were not crabs, its time we remove ourselves from the barrel.
