Look what the Universe delivered on this eve of the coming full moon! Out of the blue I got a call from a friend. He said, I have a surprise for you. The child within loves surprises! My friend arrived a few minutes later holding a mysterious book, lightly wrapped, so I couldnt see the cover, but I could tell it was a thick, serious looking hardcover edition. Before handing over this surprise, my friend said with a smile on his face but in absolute dead seriousness, Im going to loan you this book under one condition. You must promise---you must cross your heart and solemnly swear that you will not go out and live your life like this woman did. When he said that I wanted to rip the book out of his hands but he held it tight behind his back . . . So I held up my right hand and said, Yes, yes, I promise. I swear I will not go out and live like the woman in this book! (But of course I quietly held my left hand behind my back, fingers crossed . . . ) As he handed the treasure over he repeated again, You MUST promise that you will not go out and live like this . . . I unwrapped the book and immediately saw by the title, UNTAMED, that this would be my full moon read. Soon as the gift bearer left I dove onto my bed and read the prologue. I had to learn about this woman, Carol Ruckdschal, who the author of this biography proclaims to be the wildest woman in America ---a modern-day Thoreau, a combination of Annie Oakley and Jane Goodall. On the opening pages, by the light of the moon, this wild self-taught scientist observes a a giant female sea turtle--the most endangered reptile in the world---burying her eggs. After the turtle finishes, she flips her over and tags and measures her. As the turtle wades into the ocean, this wild woman straddles her massive shell, holding on to the front edge, and rides bareback into the dark waters of the ocean . . . and hangs on as the turtle dives underwater and skims the ocean floor . . .
