Looking Back.....1967.....After coming off an 8-2 campaign the previous season the Cats with the offensive fire power of Quarterback Randall Cantrell, Running Back Gerard Mullins and the talented End Skip Lawson look to improve on last years mark. But the Cats struggled in their first five games going only 2-3, with wins over Haysi 31-0 on opening night and a week three defeat of Powell Valley 12-7, the Cats lost to JJ Kelly in week # 2 12-6, and weeks 4 and 5 to Clintwood 20-14 and 33-6 to Appalachia. But the Cats would finish the season on a 5 game winning streak to finish the campaign at 7-3. The Cats defeated Ervinton 33-0, Jenkins 31-6, JI Burton 38-32, Coeburn 14-13 and Pennington 41-7 to finish out the 1967 season. The Cats were lead in scoring by Gerard Mullins as he crossed into paydirt on 17 occassions for a total of 102 points on the season, Skip Lawson would cross the goal line 6 times for 36 points to finish second on the team in scoring. Quarterback Randall Cantrell would toss for 16 touchdown passes to break the school single season record once held by Wayne Leftwich, Cantrell would end up leading all Southwest Virginia and Upper East Tennessee in this category. The Cats placed only one on First Team All-District and that was Gerard Mullins on Offense at Running Back. The Cats placed four on Second Team All-District, two on Offense (Skip Lawson at End and Randall Cantrell at Quarterback) and two on Defense (Fred Dotson at Tackle and Van Kiser at Linebacker). Other notable players on this squad were: Vick Meade, Terry Hubbard, Danny Boggs, Paul Edwards, Lawrence Bolling and Dennis Logan.
