Looking Back: My Kabaddi Playing Years, Early Literary Activities & Marriage I was a prominent player of the Kabaddi team of my ancestral village: Jagat Pur (Near Mokand Pur, District Nawan Shehar), from 1955 to 1962. This picture was taken in 1955, when we won the Dussehra Tournament, held at Mokand Pur. About 11 teams, representing 11 villages, participated in this tournament of our area. It was a great honour for our village. You can see me seated, in the front row, on the second chair from the left, as RAVINDER SINGH. In 1955-56, I was still doing my J.B.T.(Junior Basic Teachers Certificate), at Doaba Khalsa Higher Secondary School, behind Thana Sadar, Jalandhar. I completed JBT in April, 1956 and was appointed, as JBT TEACHER, on May 14, 1956, in my own village Jagat Purs District Board School. It is, in 1955, that I started writing short stories and poems, in Punjabi. From 1956 to 1964, while teaching in Jagat Pur, I passed 9 examinations, in 8 years, as a private candidate and received the following degrees: 1. B.A.(Honours) - 1959 2. M.A.(Punjabi) - 1962 3. B.T.(Bachelor of Teaching) - 1964 I published the following books during this time: Poetry: 1. Dil Darya Samundron Doonghe - 1961 2. Bukkal De Vich Chor - 1963 3. Bindoo(The Dot) - 1965 Short Stories: 1. Charaavi(Cow Girl) - 1963 Poetry/Criticism(Commpiled/Edited by me): Paryogsheel Kaav-Darpan - 1964 I also became the FOUNDER PRESIDENT of the Punjabi Likhari Sabha(Jagat Pur) with Mohinder Dosanjh, as General Secretary, in 1962. We held 2 very important CONFERENCES/GOSHATIES as follows: 1. On Punjabi Language and Linguistics - Paper was read by Isher Singh Attari. It was held in Jagat Pur, on October 13, 1962 and was presided by Linguist Dr. Gulwant Singh. 2. On PARYOGSHEELTA and Paryogsheel Lehar - Paper was read by Dr. Jasbir Singh Ahluwalia. UDHGHATAN was performed by Dr. Jeet Singh Seetal(Director Bhasha Vibhag, Punjab) and it was PRESIDED by Prof. MOHAN SINGH. It was attended by Dr. Attar Singh, Isher Singh Attari, Sukhpalvir Singh Hasrat, Pritam Singh and Prof. Piara Singh Gill etc. It was held on January 19, 1963, in S. N. College, Banga, with the cooperation of Prof. Tar and Principal Malik. I got married to Kashmir Kaur, in December, 1960 and had my first son Amritpal, in September, 1962. I was transfered to Government Model Higher Secondary School, Jalandhar in the middle of 1964 and then to Government Higher Secondary School, TALWAN, before the end of the year. Critic/writer Prof. Avtar Jaura and poet/activist MRITYUBODH were my students in Jalandhar. On January 20, 1967 I boarded a ship and sailed to Mombasa(Kenya) via Karachi and Seychelles.
