Looking back at the just concluded U17 world cup. I was shocked to observe that no benue indigen (expecially the Tivs) played any major role in that team . While im not saying the team is bad, my worry is that what has become of soccer culture which the benue ppl were known for in the past? Hardly has nigeria produce under 17 team that will not consist of one or two benue son. Fresh im my memory were likes of late JOHN AGUM, JOHN ZAKI, LEMMY ISA, AONDOFA AKOSU, TERFER APURUGH, EDWARD AYAMKYEGH,the AKILEs and many more I cant recall for now. If these great guys were discovered back then in the 80s & 90s, what has now went wrong with football in benue state that soccer tallents are no longer discovered at this young age? Could the death of the greatest team of our time; BCC LIONS FC be a contributary factor to this downward trend in getting young tallent as we use to have? Are the coaches concentrating on Lagos, Kaduna and Enugu axis when picking these boys? So many question borders my mind as to why benue no more supply materials to junior national teams. I think the benue FA need to wake up and revive the spirit of soccer in benue state.
