Looking back at the whole government shutdown debacle I can only - TopicsExpress

Looking back at the whole government shutdown debacle I can only come to one solid conclusion: Ted Cruz is the biggest winner here. Let me explain. Cruz is definitely gearing up for a run at the Republican Presidential nomination in 2016. He knows that he can neither win the nomination nor the general election. But what he can do is solidify the Tea-Party around his candidacy. If he can place well in several primary elections, he can assert considerable influence on the eventual Republican nominee who, like Romney in 2012 will have to make concession after concession to Cruz and his supporters. Cruz knew the Senate and the President would give him little to nothing on the ACA. He also knew that his strategy would mare the Republican Party overall. But what he also knew was that together with his recent filibuster, the shutdown would gain him significant prominence in the national arena. And for better or worse, it did. Think Santorum, Bachmann, Rick Perry, and Hermann Cain in a single package.
