Looking for a loophole, he asked, “And just how would you define ‘neighbor’?” (Luke 10:29 MSG) In this story of how God wants us to respond to those in our world, Jesus turns the table around and tells a story of a man who by most was considered scum of the earth...but he was the one who did the right thing. These last few months have been most interesting as we have been building relationships with those in our community who live on the fringes of our society. Sometimes, the tables are turned on us and those who have nothing, give and make a difference. They went, collected cans and gave them to us (for the recycling money) so that we can continue helping others. It wasnt much, but it was everything. I think here, Jesus is telling us, that it is in the everyday kindnesses and helpfulnesses that we change our world. Lord, thank you for the many different people you bring into my life.
