Looking for input about trotting on paved roads. It wouldnt be for more than 4 miles, and my horse is barefoot. It is through a neighborhood (to and from where I board my horse), and while there is a strip of grass between the sidewalk and the road, I get the feeling that the residents would prefer I not trot on it (it is very soft sod and when I walked across it we sunk and made a few deep horse hoof prints - plus I worry shell poop on it by someones mailbox or something). Walking is an option, but it sure makes conditioning hard when you have to spend 4 miles each day walking, and you only have time for a total of 10-11 miles. We never trot downhill (because there are NO hills anywhere in a 60 mile radius - pancake flat), so that isnt a worry, and the road is not slippery at all. Just wondering if shell get shin splints, or if boots would make it better on her legs? Or not? Does anyone else have to go over pavement to condition? (On the positive side, she sure is getting even more sacked out than she was before to neighborhood mayhem).
