I can be reached @ 561.762.5678 or by Private Message. • Traumatic Injury Management • Course Goal: To prepare & train students to assess & stabilize a person with a knife or gunshot wound until additional aid can be rendered by medical professionals and/or a hospital. This training opportunity is available as either a 1 or 2 day course & is taught by a medical professional that is actively employed in the field of trauma medicine. Class will involve lecture, demonstrations, & hands-on learning portions. Ideal Candidates: Firearm Instructors, Shooting Range Staff, LEOs, First Responders, Recreational Shooters, Armed Citizens, Military, Security, & anyone else with preparedness in mind. DAY 1: (Classroom Discussions & Hands-On Applications) • Selection & Improvisation of necessary supplies & gear • Assessing both situation and victim • Mechanism of injury/physiological response • Recognition & Management of Shock • Obtaining vitals • 911 operator communication • Gunshot Wound/analysis of injuries • Blade types/analysis of injuries • Impaled Object Management • Moving and positioning victims with various injuries • Application of Bandages and Hemostatic Agents • Application of tourniquets • Airway Restriction & using an NPA • Extremity Hemorrhaging • Head/Neck Hemorrhaging • Managing Traumatic Amputations • Symptoms of a sucking chest wound, tension hemo/pneumothorax. • Sucking chest wound management • Symptoms of Cardiac Tamponade • Entry and Exit wound management LE/First Responder Variant additions: -Dispatch communication (dialect, terms, communicating efficiently, etc.) -Protecting the crime scene and evidence around and on victim -Additional information on Impaled object management -Moving and positioning victims with various injuries -Mass Casualty Incident & Triage DAY 2: (Injury Assessment/Management Under Stress, Injured Officer Scenarios, Related Firearm Training on a Live Fire Range) On this second day, students will meet at a LE shooting range where they will be expected to perform a wide variety of assessments, treatments, & techniques taught in Day One while under realistic stress in simulated environments. Additional training will surround the days events as students are supervised, assessed, & taught to think critically as well as to improvise in order to achieve results and stabilization. The 2nd Days activities will include & cover: • Range Briefing/Medical Brief • Review of Firearm Safety • Assessing & Managing various Simulated Injuries under Stress • Applying Trauma Management Skills; especially in the presence of significant blood. • Various Levels of Stabilization • Cover vs Concealment • Downed Officer scenarios • Buddy Drag • Containing a Live Threat using suppressive fire • Buddy-Aid & Self-Aid within an active scenario • Applying pressure and/or a tourniquet to your partner as they employ their pistol. • One-Handed pistol manipulations • Applying pressure and/or a tourniquet to your self while employing your duty pistol. Day-2 Gear Requirements: Officers should dress as they would for any other shift.
