Looking for my end of the evening peace post, I decided to go with - TopicsExpress

Looking for my end of the evening peace post, I decided to go with this, honoring the great Billy Preston, who was born as William Everett Billy Preston on September 2, 1946. I wrote about Mr. Preston last year as the 5th Beatle and couldnt decided whether to just re-share that post (which I may still do) or another song by Billy, but then I listened to this, and everything just fit in place. This is Billys rendition of George Gershwins aria for Porgy and Bess. Summertime has also been covered by Ray Charles and Sam Cooke, two artists Billy Preston has also worked with. I could have selected other Billy Preston songs, but with the end of summer fast approaching, this song seems fitting. Heres another interesting tidbit - it is said that George Gershwiin conceived this song after hearing the Ukrainian lullaby, Oi Khodyt Son Kolo Vikon (A Dream Passes By The Windows), whose lyrics are: The Dream passes by the window, And Sleep by the fence. The Dream asks Sleep: Where should we rest tonight? Where the house is warm, Where the child is small, There we will go, And rock the child to sleep. There we will sleep, and will rock the child: Sleep, sleep, my little falcon, Sleep, sleep, my little dove.
