Looking through the many files on the shelves in my office, I - TopicsExpress

Looking through the many files on the shelves in my office, I caught myself thinking … I had an interview with a young lady this morning concerning her court proceedings. She has an on-going divorce case alleging domestic violence, issues bordering on child custody, and injunction proceedings. The interview left my heart bleeding (as often is the case) as I realised just how helpless she is at the moment. She fled her matrimonial home as she can no longer cope with the abuse from her husband; she is stuck in a strange place. Her life is on a standstill. This lady is one of the many ladies I meet with different family issues. Some of the most recurring statements they make while fighting tears are “I should not have rushed into marriage with him”, “he is not the right person”, “if only I hadn’t ignored some things I saw back then”… My dear single ladies, marriage is not a sprint, it is a marathon. Please, look before you leap; take your time.
