Looks like the anticipated round 2 storms predicted earlier for tonight are now not likely to form. Our chance of evening/overnight storms has been reduced from 60% to only 20%, so it looks as thought the rough part of the day is over for the MOV. No watches, warnings, or advisories are currently in place and all appears to be calm. 1st Energy alone (not including AEP) is still reporting some 87,800 without power around northern WV, including over 1,500 for Wirt, 1,300 in Roane, just under 1,000 in Calhoun, 1,700 in Jackson, and more than 13,000 in Wood. But with the storm threat for later on significantly reduced, it looks like crews will have every opportunity to get power restored as quickly as possible. Southern Wirt (along with Parkersburg and Spencer) seemed to have gotten the hardest hit. Reports of a tree down across a trailer penetrating the roof and busting out a side wall on Lynn Camp, and additional trees down across home roofs and barn roof damages in the Pee Wee area have been posted. I have not seen any additional damage pics or posts from Wirt so far. (Note for Wood County folks: Red Cross has set up a shelter at South Parkersburg Baptist Church if anyone impacted from todays storm needs a place to be with electric, etc. If folks need electric for Oxygen machines, COPD devices, etc., please refer them to the shelter.) The line that hit us is still wrecking havoc in PA and points northeast. The line has formed a distinct bow echo, and will most likely be classified as a Derecho event before the evening is over. We were at the front formation of this one luckily, so while we are dealing with some damage and power outages around the state, we got nothing like the June 29, 2012 event. Whew!! The next few days look absolutely delightful! The next mention of storms does not happen till Saturday. Here is your updated NWS Charleston forecast: Tonight: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11pm, then a slight chance of showers between 11pm and 2am. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds. Partly cloudy, with a low around 66. Southwest wind 7 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Wednesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 83. Southwest wind 7 to 9 mph.
