Loot: EFCC Begins Investigations In Adamawa: Loot: EFCC Begins Investigations In Adamawa BY MOHAMMED ISMAIL — Oct 15, 2014 | Leave a comment Officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have stormed Yola, Adamawa State capital to commence investigations into allegation of N18billion theft leveled against the immediate past regime led by Acting Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri sources at Government House has disclosed. The arrival of the EFCC officials into the state followed heightened speculations that the former acting governor has embezzled N18billion state funds in 86 days, a development that caused unease in the State House of Assembly as members vowed to impeach him. A source at Government House, Yola, who spoke on condition of anonymity confirmed the development explaining that the EFCC operatives have stormed the account section of the Government House where they demanded information about the expenditures by the former acting governor, just as information has it that the EFCC officials stormed other relevant ministries and parastatals in the state for more insight. Allegation of financial sleaze against the regime started filtering shortly after an Abuja High Court sacked acting governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri. In his first public function since he was sacked as acting Governor and while presiding over the sitting of Tuesday’s plenary session at the at the hallowed chambers of the state House of Assembly, Fintiri repudiated allegations of the said financial sleaze adding that they are bunch of lies. “It is on record that our brief stewardship as the acting governor had resuscitated a state which was on life support in the past seven years,” Fintiri noted. He urged the people to disregard the rumour saying it is baseless and have no substance adding that it is unimaginable for a government that stays for only 86 days to steal such gargantuan amount of funds. He attributed the development to his enemies who seems to be hell bent in denting his image and the integrity of his administration even as he challenges them to provide any evidence for just one million naira he squandered. Fintiri added that he would continue to stand by the truth no matter the blackmail and intimidation adding that, he has no regret for impeaching Nyako as the action was in line with popular demand of the people and will not hesitate to do that again if the need arises. “As number one lawmaker, I have taken events that occurred in the last couple of days in my stride and pledge to stand by truth no matter the blackmail and intimidation. “I would like to make it abundantly clear that the legislature remains the defender of democracy and should it be required to exercise its constitutional duties of riding Adamawa state of bad governance once again it will do so without hesitation,” he said.
