(2) I found that the actual cost of per Km of the Matara-Beliatte single track railway is a staggering USD 14m, that is even more than the unbelievable price tag for the Colombo-Katunayake highway (The Deputy Minister had mislead the House in his answer to Anura Dissanayake two days back giving a lower figure). (3) The most recent studies show that even in the US a similar railway, on flat land with a maximum speed of 125Kmph, is only USD 3.5m per Km! What happens to all the money that is being robbed?
