Lord Ganeshas Temple In KL. And guys guess what we did today? We went to Lord Ganeshas temple in KL! First its Lord Murugan, and now his younger brother Ganesha! Looks like all the Gods reside in KL! Rita had been telling me about this famous temple of Ganesha, where people went to break coconuts when their wishes were fulfilled. Breaking a coconut is regarded as being highly auspicious in Hindu culture. But I had never seen a temple in which they broke 100 and 1000s of coconuts! So I was very excited! Aunty Bimla, Neeras mother is an amazing women, and her knowledge of the culture, the stories of the Gods, and her insights into religion, not only of Hinduism but also Islam, Ceylonese and even Christianity is remarkable. Along with that her story-telling skills are so great that she just has you gripped.... hanging on to her every word....that you just want to sit there for hours listening to her......which I have been doing for the past few weeks! So now I feel compelled to tell you the story of Lord Ganesha as I heard it from her! The Story Of Lord Ganeshas Birth. Shivji and Parvati were married to each other, and one day Shivji was away in the Himalayas. Parvati was at home and she wanted to take s bath. But she was worried that somebody would disturb her, so she created a child out of turmeric, and breathed life into it, so as had given life to it , it was her son. So this child stood guard at the door, whilst his mother had a bath. Shivji came home and demanded entrance into the house, the child refused( he was doing his duty) Shivji got very angry, and not realising this child was his son cut off his head!! Parvati was so upset, she cried and she cried, and demanded that Shivji bring back this child to life! But there was no head!! So Shivji went off into the jungle, he found a baby elephant, and he chopped off the baby elephants head, attached it to the childs head, and breathed life into this child! Parvati at first was horrified, and would refuse to come out of her room. Then all the Gods came and gave gifts to this child, and adorned him with beautiful clothes and ornaments, and he looked magnificent! This was Lord Ganesha as we know him with an elephants head. When Parvati saw him she fell in love with her child! And Lord Shivji granted his son Lord Ganesha the boon , that he would be The Destroyer Of All Obstacles... And whenever any auspicious ceremony was to be started, he would be the first God to be prayed to!! So after hearing this wonderful story from Aunty Bimla, we all sat in the car.... Uncle, Aunty Bimla, Neera, Rita, Rohini, Rohan and me....packed in one car just like in India....and went to Lord Ganeshas temple!! The pictures will vouch for themselves, what a beautiful temple it was! We prayed, we did our parikrama, broke coconuts.....and then we danced in the streets singing......... GANAPATI BAPPA MORIYA!! GANAPATI BAPPA MORIYA!! (The Malayasians were quite alarmed to say the least)
