Lord God, giver of all life, the long months of waiting are over and the time has come for the birth. Take away all my anxiety and fear, and calm me in the knowledge that you are with me. Strengthen me after this experience in the knowledge that you have sent another little life into the world. Eternal God, you create everything in wisdom and love: look with blessing on this newborn child. Keep your protective hand over this little person and imprint your image on her soul. Protect our child through all the dangers of childhood. Lead her safely to maturity and grant that she will one day perform good works on your earth. Enable our little child to know Jesus as her best friend. May your blessing also be upon us, Father. You have given us an unbelievable opportunity: help us to accept it with great responsibility. May we never fail in the trust you have placed in us. When we return home, Lord Jesus, help us to make our home a place where Jesus is the invisible guest whose presence we will never forget. Grant our whole family a pure and redeemed heart, so that our precious child may follow our example in all we do or say; and her little feet walk in our footprints because they point along your road. Thank you that we have now become a completed household. I pray this all to the glory of your name. Amen
