Lord, we come to You today in total awe of who You are and how frail and simple we are. You created the mountains and tell the seas how far they can go and we stumble over a stone and search for water to quench our thirst. You created the stars and have named each of them and we struggle to find our car keys. You set up nation against nation like chess pieces and we actually have the audacity to think our human negotiations control the world. Sometimes, it is not hard to see Your hand in all of this, but when it comes to seeing how much You love us, we just don’t get it. Even when Your Word says, “Where is another God like you, who pardons the guilt of the remnant, overlooking the sins of his special people? You will not stay angry with Your people forever, because You DELIGHT in showing unfailing LOVE. Once again You will have COMPASSION on us. You will trample our sins under Your feet and throw them into the depths of the ocean! You will show us Your FAITHFULNESS and unfailing love as You promised …” (Micah 7.18-20) Why, God, why can’t we let that sink deep into our bones? Why can’t we get it? Get that You passionately love us??? Father, forgive us, simply and purely, forgive us. Place a new heart and a new attitude toward You deep within our hearts. Take our stubborn hearts of stone and cast them in the depths of the sea, make us tender toward Your will and Your way. Fill us with Your Spirit so we can openly and faithfully walk the path You have for us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
