Lorelei cant seem to kick the tired. And for a girl going to college full time with a new husband and a new job (working at Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children) being tired is very inconvenient. Were talking about the kind of tired that sleep doesnt help. The kind of tired that requires one to know the location of every bench between ones car and the final destination and to sit on each one of them. The kind of tired that causes her to be out of breath walking from our driveway through the garage and into our house. Her doctor noticed shes pretty pale too. (LOL for someone who has been forbidden to let her skin see sunlight.) Apparently shes very anemic. The kind of anemic that taking iron supplements just wont fix. And yet she keeps on going. I am amazed at her strength. Anyway, today she got word that she gets to have a blood transfusion tomorrow! Whoopee! (I never thought Id see anyone so excited about a blood transfusion.) Her oncologist is also trying to see if we can convince BCBS to cover a special shot (called Procrit or Epigen) to give to her weekly to help her body make more blood. Traditionally this shot is given for chemotherapy induced anemia. But Lorelei hasnt had chemotherapy in 13 months. Her anemia may be a result of the photopheresis process. So, well see if BCBS agrees to pay for it. Weve heard its an expensive shot. Who knows what this young woman will be able to do when shes finally well?
